Every Man City player featuring in the 2022 World Cup after squad announcements

|

World Cup squads for the 2022 tournament in Qatar have been released and Manchester City have 16 players selected in their respective national teams – the most coming from England (4) and Portugal (3).

Kyle Walker was given the nod for England despite being sidelined with a groin injury since September. Gareth Southgate said he’s likely to play in the latter stages of the group.

Kalvin Phillips was also selected despite just recovering from shoulder surgery, with Southgate admitting his selection was based on past performance for England. He’s hardly played for City this season, so he’ll be short of match fitness.

Gareth Southgate picked Jack Grealish and will hope he enjoys more success in front of goal for England after contributing only one goal this season for City. Phil Foden was a shoo-in to be chosen as he’s scored seven goals with three assists from 19 games this season.

Full list of Man City players going to the World Cup: Ederson (Brazil), Ruben Dias (Portugal), Aymeric Laporte (Spain), John Stones (England), Nathan Ake (Netherlands), Manuel Akanji (Switzerland), Joao Cancelo (Portugal), Kyle Walker (England), Rodri (Spain), Kalvin Phillips (England), Phil Foden (England), Ilkay Gundogan (Germany), Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium), Bernardo Silva (Portugal), Jack Grealish (England), Julian Alvarez (Argentina).
