FA Slap Ban on Thatcher

The Football Association has today handed Ben Thatcher an eight-match ban plus a 15-game suspended ban for ‘that’ challenge on Pompey’s Pedro Mendes in the home game at Eastlands last month.

The FA confirmed that the eight-match suspension will take effect retroactively from August 26, three days after the incident in which Mendes was taken out by Thatcher.

The FA ban will in effect run concurrently with the Club ban which would mean Thatcher could not be considered for selection until November; an outcome that is probably better than expected.

The 15-match suspended ban can be enforced at any time in the next two years if the player is found guilty of another serious foul.

Let’s hope this is the end of the matter now and we can concentrate on the football, although after last night, that’s just as depressing.

Great to see Mendes back in action at the weekend by the way !

Message to FEn_100: Bluetone’s reply sums it all up really. We’re a decent lot at City and don’t want our Club’s name tarnished by idiots and thugs.
