Four-Year Deal?

Could a year really be the difference between James Milner committing his future to City or us losing him on a free in the summer? The Mirror claimed this over the weekend.

If City give England man Milner a four-year contract then interest from Arsenal and Liverpool will end, his future will be secure and everyone will live happily ever after!

The fact that we’re ‘only’ offering a three-year contract on a meagre £80,000-a-week, not that the money offered is an issue mind, isn’t deemed acceptable apparently with him demanding that extra year so he can ‘spend the rest of his career’ with us.

Milner is someone that we ideally need to keep, I would like us to keep him, and I suppose if he’s as important to us as others have been deemed – remembering they have been given five-year contracts, maybe we should give him a four-year contract? The thing is though, with him already 29 now, would he still be as influential for us in a year or two let alone four? Difficult decisions ahead.

I still tend to think that Milner will end up staying at the Etihad, and hope that he does, but I’m not convinced it would be with him getting a four-year contract….
