Defensive midfielder Didi Hamann could be on the verge of resurrecting his career with either Preston North End or Queens Park Rangers.
The 35-year-old Manchester City player left Eastlands at the end of last season after the club refused to offer the former German international a new contract. Now it appears Championship sides Preston and QPR are on the verge of offering Hamann a lifeline with a one-year contract.
The former Liverpool employee said he believes he has a couple of years left in the professional game before he contemplates a role in coaching.
