Guardiola linked with international job as manager resigns after World Cup disappointment

|

Tite resigned as manager of Brazil after the South American side crashed out of the World Cup quarter-finals and Joaoquim Piera of Sport says Pep Guardiola is being considered as a replacement.

While acknowledging Guardiola is contracted to Manchester City until 2025, Piera says Brazil want to know Pep’s future plans and could contact him in the coming days about taking the job.

It’s unlikely Seleção Canarinho’s pursuit will be successful, however, as Guardiola only recently signed a new deal at the Etihad Stadium, so their efforts may be wasted.

Pep, while managing in Germany, England and Spain, is unlikely to take charge of a national team that isn’t his home country. He represented Spain as a player and has stated his intentions to manage the national team in the future.

Man City need not be worried about the latest news as Guardiola wouldn’t have signed a new deal if he could be so easily poached by a national team. Piera adds that Brazil’s president Ednaldo Rodrigues is willing to wait for the season to finish to get Pep, but it would be a shock to see him make the switch.
