The 28-year-old came into the World Cup having played as a makeshift right-back for Manchester City but showed Pep Guardiola he can be trusted in a central role again after forging a formidable partnership alongside Harry Maguire.
Stones made five appearances at the tournament, amassing 437 minutes of playing time from a possible 450. He conceded four goals and helped England keep three clean sheets.
