Guardiola may keep 27 y/o despite 16 Man City players making more apps in 2021/22 [Opinion]

Nathan Ake’s future at Manchester City is uncertain as he’s struggled for appearances under Pep Guardiola and has a lot of clubs willing to give him regular playing time next season. Simon Bajkowski of Manchester Evening News says City are open to selling Ake this summer but won’t let him go until a replacement is sourced.

Guardiola would probably prefer to keep the 27-year-old, however, due to the difficult in locating a like-for-like alternative, so it’s hard to see City pushing for sell Ake. The Sky Blues are in for a busy summer with Gabriel Jesus nearing a move to Arsenal while Raheem Sterling is in talks over a move to Chelsea, so Guardiola could do without negotiating another player’s exit.

Ake made 27 appearances in all competitions from a possible 68 (39.7%), starting just 10 Premier League games from a possible 38 (26.3%) and starting three Champions League outings from a possible 12 (25%), so the Dutch international can’t be happy spending so much of the season on the bench (1739/6120 minutes played).

Sixteen Man City players racked up more league appearances than Ake this season, but it’s less hassle for Guardiola to keep him if he’s willing to stay. The 27-year-old said last month that he’ll fight for his place, so it doesn’t appear he wants out.

In other news, Raheem Sterling tried to warn Pep Guardiola in 2021 but was ignored
