‘He knows where the goal is’ – Man City tipped to sign £19.8m-rated man with 197 goals

Manchester City are expected to make moves for a striker in the winter transfer window after failing to replace Sergio Aguero ahead of the new season.

The Sky Blues tried to lure Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur and were also linked with Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku without success, so Shaun Wright-Phillips has recommended them another striker that is more attainable.

He believes City should consider a move for Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette, telling Sunsport: “Lacazette, he knows where the goal is. He knows how to bring people into play.

“I always believe that when he plays for Arsenal, their front three behind him seem to play better. There seems to be more of a link-up between them.” The 30-year-old may well be available as his contract is up in a matter of months.

Lacazette is coming to the end of a five-year deal signed in 2017 and isn’t close to putting pen to paper on an extension. The French international, who’s scored 197 goals in 453 games, hasn’t been a regular under Mikel Arteta this season, so he could be on his way out of the Emirates.

Lacazette has made 8/13 appearances in all competitions this season, amassing just 329 minutes from a possible 1170 – five of his eight appearances have come from the bench and he’s been an unused substitute three times.

Arsenal will have a decision to make in January. They risk losing Lacazette on a free transfer if they don’t cash in early, but they aren’t likely to lose a useful player midway through the season either.

Whether City opt to sign a £19.8m-rated 30-year-old striker that the Gunners don’t have a place for remains to be seen, however.
