Head-to-head record, recent form, score prediction – Man City v Sevilla preview [Opinion]

Manchester City welcome Sevilla to the Etihad Stadium in Wednesday’s Champions League clash, having already sealed their place in the knockout stages as group winners.

Pep Guardiola’s men made light work of the Spaniards in the reverse fixture, so City will be big favourites to pick up all three points. But the Sky Blues will be much-changed as Guardiola said he’ll ring the changes after Saturday’s 1-0 win over Leicester City.

Guardiola’s men are top of Group G with 11 points from five games, boasting three wins and two draws while conceding just one goal. City are coming off the back of two wins and a draw from their last three games in all competitions, letting in just one goal again.

As for Sevilla, Jorge Sampaoli’s men are third in the group with five points from as many matches, having won one, drawn two and lost two. The Liga side can’t make the knockouts as they’re three points behind Borussia Dortmund and have an inferior head-to-head record.

Ahead of Wednesday’s meeting, Sevilla have lost two of their last three games, winning just two games in as many months, so they’ve not been in good shape. Away from home, they haven’t managed more than a goal a game since mid-September either.

City boast a 100% record in every competition on home soil this season, scoring three or more goals in seven of their eight games at the Etihad. They thrashed Sevilla 4-0 in the reverse fixture and boast three wins from three in head-to-heads (2-1 in 2015/16, 3-1 in 2015/16, 4-0 in 2022/23), so this one is likely to go the way of the formbook.

Prediction: Man City 3-0 Sevilla
