‘His contract is ending’ – Journalist says Pep Guardiola will allow Man City player to leave

|

Ilkay Gundogan has been talked about incessantly this season as his contract expires in the summer and he’s yet to sign an extension beyond 2023. The 32-year-old remains a regular in the starting lineup and is a player Pep Guardiola wants to keep, but Hector Andreu of Fichajes says the Manchester City manager will grant his wish to leave.

The outlet claims Gundogan wants to depart from City when his contract is up at the end of the campaign. Andreu also said he could be on his way to Barcelona as they seek a replacement for Sergio Busquets, but Vital Man City have already noted multiple times how the two players aren’t alike and how Gundogan is no spring chicken himself.

The German international has made 28 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals with two assists. He’s played a lot of games despite having Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva ahead in the midfield pecking order, but his long-term future is in doubt with City wanting to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Andreu is adamant the playmaker will follow Joao Cancelo through the exit door, but City aren’t rushing Gundogan. They will let him take all the time he needs to make a decision, so an announcement may not come for weeks or months.
