Kyle Walker was recently linked with a move away from Manchester City and reports from Turkey suggested Fenerbahce were leading the race for his signature, but it’s hard to see Pep Guardiola sanctioning an exit with Joao Cancelo nearing a departure.
Fener manager Jorge Jesus is a big fan of the 32-year-old, but he’s barking up the wrong tree as City can’t afford to lose another fullback so late into the winter transfer window. Rico Lewis has been keeping Walker out of the starting lineup of late, but Pep is still an admirer of the veteran.
Walker has made 14 appearances across the board this season, amassing 962 minutes of football. The England international missed a large number of games in October and November due to a groin injury and has found opportunities being few and far between since the World Cup in December, so he won’t be thrilled with how the season’s panned out.
Walker has started just two games from City’s last six in the Premier League and was named on the bench in their last FA Cup clash, but it doesn’t seem likely that he’d be open to a mid-season move away. And when Cancelo does depart, City will be left with only three fullbacks. Walker exiting could be catastrophic.
