Injury blow for Man City as 5ft 7in man could miss FC Porto clash

Manchester City have suffered a blow ahead of Tuesday evening’s Champions League trip to face FC Porto, with Pep Guardiola confirming in a pre-match press conference that Sergio Aguero missed training with a knee injury.

The 32-year-old was left out of Saturday’s 5-0 win over Burnley due to the knock and now faces a race to be fit in time for next Saturday’s meeting with Fulham.

Guardiola said on Monday: “I am not concerned. He didn’t train. He has some disturbance in his knee, nothing serious, but he didn’t train.” Aguero wasn’t pictured training with any Man City players this week, so it doesn’t appear we’ll see him at the Estádio do Dragão.

The 5ft 7in Argentine international has spent much of the campaign sidelined with injury. He’s made just four appearances in all competitions and hasn’t featured in the Premier League for a month-and-a-half

Aguero’s only top-flight appearances this season came in the form of 65 minutes in City’s 1-0 win over Arsenal (October 17) and 45 minutes in their 1-1 draw with West Ham United (October 24). He’s otherwise been left out of the matchday squad or an unused substitute due to a lack of fitness.

With Aguero’s contract up in 2021 and the real possibility that he could leave in June, he’s not having the best farewell season. To amass only 190 minutes of football across four games isn’t the impact he will have wanted to have, so here’s hoping we can have him back for Fulham.
