Journalist says Man City player ‘could depart’ because he wants to be ‘closer to home’

|

Bernardo Silva has an uncertain future at Manchester City after publicly admitting he’s considering a change of scenery when the season comes to a close. Barcelona have shown an interest in the 28-year-old for two years and James Ducker of the Telegraph says Silva ‘could depart’ City this summer as he wants to be ‘closer to home’.

Pep Guardiola could have a problem on his hands in the coming months as Silva won’t be easy to replace. The Portuguese international has made 282 appearances in all competitions since joining City from AS Monaco in 2017, scoring 50 goals with 56 assists. He’s become one of the best midfielders while in England but appears to be searching for a new challenge.

Silva made no secret about wanting a new project in the coming months, but he is contracted to City until 2025. So if his asking price isn’t met, he will stay in Manchester. Guardiola wants to replace the 28-year-old with Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, but Liverpool and Real Madrid could hijack the deal.

Failure to sign the 19-year-old means Pep will be desperate to keep Silva, but he’s always said he won’t stand in a player’s way if they want to leave. Barcelona reportedly want a replacement for Sergio Busquets, but Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan are also on their radar.
