Manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Stevan Jovetic is back in contention for the Tuesday night game against Roma.

Speaking to the Official Site in his pre match press conference the manager confirmed that Jovetic could be in line for a recall to the squad or even the first eleven selection, but Fernando remains sidelined and will now miss his sixth match since picking up an injury.

‘Jovetic is back training with the squad and is available for the match with Roma. Fernando will miss the game and along with Samir Nasri, they are the only two players that are injured.’

Following the first result in Europe and Pellegrini’s own touchline ban, he admitted he’ll be glad to get back in the dug out for the match and he’s obviously looking for us to get the win under our belt, although he did say the previous loss hasn’t added any additional pressure to this game, the pressure is the same regardless.

‘I think it’s important to be on the touchline and I’m looking forward to being close to the players again. It’s better for everyone and I’m happy the manager and players can all be together again. The pressure is normal and I think we were under more pressure after losing the opening game at home to Bayern last season. We were unfortunate to not take a point, but even if we had, there would have been no difference going into the Roma clash.’

The bottom line for the manager is that we just continue to play in the same vein as we have done in recent matches because he knows we are capable of running games and he knows we are more than capable of scoring goals so even though he describes Roma as a ‘very good side’ he knows if we are at our best on Tuesday evening then we can win the game and that will be what we aim to do.
