Kolo Toure Up The Road

Kolo Toure’s four year association with Manchester City has ended with the 32 year old central defender joining Liverpool on a free transfer…

Already training with The Reds, the genial Ivory Coast international joined Mark Hughes’ City squad amongst what was a whirlwind splash out in July 2009 for a fee of £16,000,000 from Arsenal. Toure was part of an incoming contingent of experienced internationals designed to reinforce The Blues standing in the top flight. Job done. Yet since initial regular showings, the player fell down the defensive pecking order under Roberto Mancini, his first team cause not helped by a lengthy ban for mistakenly taking a banned substance contained in a dietary pill in 2011. This summer, Manuel Pellegrini gave the go ahead for Toure to move on.

Toure, who will clearly come into the Liverpool squad for Jamie Carragher said:

‘I knew I had to leave City. I’ve come next door and that’s a great move for me.’

Kolo Toure made 102 league and cup appearances for The Citizens including 12 as a substitute and scored 3 goals.
