Skipper Vincent Kompany has said that Manchester City have to achieve our Champions League ambitions to prove that we are now a ‘big club’.

In quotes carried by the Manchester Evening News as the camp head off to Sevilla for the next Champions League group match, Kompany explained that he felt lifting that particular trophy was the final hurdle we had to overcome.

Of course victory against Sevilla in the Group D match this week could secure passage through to the knockout stages once more and reaching that point we have to look to kick on further and improve on previous years.

‘For us as players it’s the last thing we have to achieve in order to prove we have become a big club. In England it is undoubted that over the last four or five years we have been amongst the top teams, but in Europe that has not been the case yet. I do understand why the Premier League is so important as it is so hard to win, and I understand we have to go to the next level in Champions League. It’s easy to say but very difficult to do.’

Here’s hoping this is the year!
