City yesterday sent youngster Marcos Lopes out on loan for the season with Lille, which gives him a chance to further his development.

Lopes played a key role in City’s second leg win over West Ham United in last season’s league cup semi final with him so far making another four-appearances for the club in the same competition, scoring one-goal.

This moves gives the Portuguese youngster the opportunity to potentially play champions league football with the French outfit, which can only be a ‘good experience’ for him as he says himself and he is ‘very excited’ by this prospect.

Lopes see’s this as a ‘good opportunity’ for him to grow as a player, telling the official website: ‘I feel very happy to have signed because it is a new step in my career and it is a good opportunity for me to develop as a player.

‘It is very important for me to play in a professional league for the first time. I think playing in the French League will be very beneficial because it is a league that is getting bigger, better and stronger every year.’

Playing the odd cup game here and there, along with development games, is all good and well but proper competitive league action is what is needed if Lopes is going to continue his development and this move to France should do him good.

Will he have a City future in the long-term? Well only time will tell on that score but this should be a good move for all concerned at this stage really….
