Man City cut player’s loan move short and agree deal with new club

Martin Blackburn of The Sun has revealed that Manchester City cut Luke Mbete’s loan move short at Huddersfield Town and have agreed a deal for him to spend the rest of the season at Bolton Wanderers.

The 19-year-old made just six appearances in all competitions for the Terriers, spending most of his time out of the matchday or on the bench, so City are hoping he can get more opportunities at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Championship football may have been too much too soon for the highly-rated centre-back, so he’s joining a League One promotion hopeful (5th with 50 points) that boast the third-best defensive record this season (23 goals conceded from 29 games).

And while a setback for Mbete to waste half the season at Huddersfield, Blackburn says City still believe he has a bright future ahead of him. The club want him to get valuable first-team experience before they consider integrating him in the senior squad.

Mbete joined City from Brentford in 2016 and has gone on to make 18 appearances for the U18s, six appearances for the U19s, 37 appearances for the U21s and three appearances for the first-team. He’s knocking on the door…
