Man City dealt blow over “fantastic” £50m-rated target who Pep adores – Report

|

According to an update courtesy of Sky Sports News, Man City defensive target Ben Chilwell looks likely to remain at the King Power Stadium given Leicester City’s stance that they do not wish to sell – dealing a blow to our hopes of landing the £50 million-rated man

Chilwell, who started 23 Premier League games for the Foxes under Brendan Rodgers before the season’s untimely postponement, is reportedly at the centre of interest from both City and Chelsea as we scour the market for defensive additions ahead of next campaign.

Would Chilwell be your ideal left-back signing?

Yes, Txiki do your thing

No, overrated

The England international, who has been praised by manager Pep Guardiola in the past, could be a welcome asset at left-back given our weakness in that area over the last few seasons.

Benjamin Mendy has suffered with reoccurring injury issues since he signed from Monaco back in the summer of 2017, forcing us to utilise ex-midfielder Fabian Delph in the role as well as Oleksandr Zinchenko.

This has debatably prompted Guardiola to search for a natural left-back who is proven in the English top flight, but given Leicester’s reluctance to sell, City may have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Chilwell.

Described as ‘fantastic‘ by Sky Sports pundit Tony Cottee, Leicester are apparently desperate to keep hold of the 23-year-old – so much so that it may take more than £50m to prise him away.

Given this latest update, we may have to search elsewhere for a left-back, unless of course sporting director Txiki Begiristain and CFG are willing to splash the cash.
