Man City dealt transfer blow with Liverpool ‘optimistic’ about signing 19 y/o

Manchester City are keen on signing Jude Bellingham as he has the potential to be one of the best central midfielders in Europe, but Pep Guardiola has been dealt a major blow in his pursuit of the 19-year-old with Liverpool leading the race for his signature.

Sky Sports News said on Friday that Liverpool were ‘optimistic’ about signing Bellingham, despite interest from City, Chelsea and Real Madrid. The England international has two-and-a-half years remaining on his deal at Borussia Dortmund, but Sky say he should be granted a departure for the right price.

Bellingham joined Dortmund from Birmingham City in 2020 and has gone on to make 112 appearances in all competitions, scoring 19 goals with 21 assists. He’s one of the best box-to-box players in Europe already, consistently creating chances and making successful dribbles while being adept at turning over possession, so it’s easy to see why City want him.

But Liverpool under former Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp fancy their chances of beating out the interest, though they’re yet to lodge a bid. Sky added that it might take an offer of £100m-£150m to sign Bellingham. It doesn’t appear any side will make a move until the summer.
