Manchester City are closing in on a move for Maximo Perrone but already have their eye on another South American talent, according to Javier Parra Peña of Fichajes. Exequiel Zeballos is believed to be on City’s radar, though Peña says Boca Juniors may be fielding interest from Real Madrid and AC Milan.
The 20-year-old rose through the youth ranks to the first-team in 2020 and has gone on to make 46 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals with three assists. Zeballos is a highly-rated left-winger, but it remains to be seen if he’d get into City’s first-team.
Pep Guardiola already has Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez who can operate in his role, so the Argentina youth international wouldn’t be bought to make an instant impact. If signed, Zeballos might be loaned out to gain valuable experience before getting a City pre-season under his belt.
Fielding off interest from Real and Milan is a big task for City, so time will tell if a move gets over the line. Peña’s article doesn’t say which club are leading the race for his signature, so the 20-year-old could end up staying in Argentina.
City aren’t exactly short of talented young forwards with Cole Palmer, Carlos Borges and Adedire Mebude, so they don’t have a fervent need for Zeballos despite months of scouting.
