Man City linked with £20m-rated left-back with more tackles than Ake and Akanji

|

Joao Cancelo is closing in on a loan move to Bayern Munich, ending a three-year stay at Manchester City, so Pep Guardiola might be in need of a replacement left-back. Fichajes believe the wheels may already be in motion with City adding left-backs on their shortlist, but it remains to be seen if they’ll get a deal over the line before the winter transfer window shuts.

Vital Man City already cited a report from UK media that suggested Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell was a potential transfer target, but Fichajes say Fulham’s Antonee Robinson is also on option. The 25-year-old has made 88 appearances in all competitions since joining on a four-year deal from Wigan Athletic in 2020, scoring three goals with four assists.

Robinson has been a regular with the Cottagers this season, playing in 18 of Fulham’s 21 Premier League games, so he might be a hard player to attain. He boasts more tackles per game (1.6) than Manuel Akanji (1.4) and Nathan Ake (1.1), so he’d improve the City squad.

Fulham won’t willingly give up on their first-choice left-back, however, and fended off interest from Inter Milan when a £20m deal was mooted back in November, so City might have to pay in excess of that figure.

The Sky Blues would have little problem matching the transfer fee, but they might be met with some resistant from Fulham. The Cottagers won’t want to lose an important player midway through the season while they’re 7th in the table and on course to finish in a European spot, so time will tell if a deal gets over the line.
