Manchester City’s wages were published by The Sun on Sunday and showed Jack Grealish was the club’s third-highest earner on £300k-per-week/£15.6m-a-year, taking home twice as much as Bernardo Silva (£150k-per-week/£7.8m-a-year) and four times more than Phil Foden (£65k-per-week/£3.4m-a-year).

The 27-year-old scored three goals with three assists from 26 Premier League games in 2021/22 and has zero goals with zero assists from four games across the board this season, so City could have an expensive problem if he doesn’t turn things around.

City spent £100m on Grealish and will have spent £93.6m in wages by the end of his contract, so he’ll have set the side back nearly £200m in total. That’s a big investment and he’s yet to deliver nearly 25% into his City stint, so he’s not justifying the financial outlay. Silva and Foden are outperforming him while on a lot less money.

If Grealish has another off season, City may be seriously considering a sale. The problem is that he’s too expensive for most clubs, especially based on his current form, and he takes home too much money for sides to pay. Why would a suitor break their transfer record and wage budget for an underperforming playmaker?
