Man City player nearing summer departure after rejecting new deal

|

Samuel Edozie is out of contract in 2023 and hasn’t broken into the Manchester City first-team, so the Sky Blues will have to cash in this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing next year. Edozie is open to a permanent departure too as he’s been short of opportunities in Manchester, so he rejected a new deal.

The 19-year-old had interest from Bayer Leverkusen and may be keen to make the switch after seeing how well Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham did in Germany, let alone because he isn’t getting a look in under Pep Guardiola.

Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the situation, revealing that Leverkusen have made progress on initial talks and are close to sealing the transfer. The Bundesliga outfit have agreed a fee with City and a two-year deal with Edozie, so they will soon confirm the move.

The England U19 international has scored five goals with six assists from 22 games for the U18s, made one assist from two games for the U19s and scored eight goals with three assists from 33 games for the U23s.

Edozie has made just one appearance for City’s first-team which came in the Community Shield final, so it’s clear Guardiola has no plans for the wide-man. Leverkusen will no doubt hope he can replicate his form at youth level in the first-team next season. Time will tell if the gamble pays off.
