Manchester City have been linked with a move for Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes, according to A Bola via Zach Lowy, offering €40m (£35m) and the economic rights to Pedro Porro, Ante Palaversa and Talles Magno.

Porro impressed on loan at Sporting and has been linked with Real Madrid, so his sale would fetch a tidy sum. Talles Magno has four years remaining on his deal at New York City, so there’s no immediate need to rush a sale. Palaversa, however, has one year remaining on his contract and could leave on a free transfer in 2023 if a move doesn’t go through this summer.

The 22-year-old joined City on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Hajduk Split in Janaury 2019 and has yet to make an appearance. Palaversa has been loaned out to Hajduk Split (2019), KV Oostende (2019/20), Getafe (2020/21) and KV Kortrijk (2021 – 2022) due to his inability to get a look in under Pep Guardiola.

His loan is up in Belgium and he’s due to return to Manchester ahead of the new season, but it doesn’t appear he has a future at the Etihad. City paid £5.7m for Palaversa and would likely want their money back, but it remains to be seen where he’ll end up.

Offering him as a makeweight in a deal for Nunes won’t make them any money but may shave off a percentage of his asking price. If a deal doesn’t get over the line, however, Palaversa could depart for nothing when his contract expires next year.

The Croatian midfielder’s market value has dropped by £4.4m, so there may not be a lot of suitors lining up for his signature.

Dear Author, Wiki says On May 16 2022, Sporting triggered Porro’s buyout clause of €8.5m (£7.2m) million, signing Porro a permanent three-year deal, with a reported €20m (£17.6m) million buy-back clause.
