Man City should consider 24 y/o when Guardiola makes Phil Foden change [Opinion]

|

Pep Guardiola is planning to convert Phil Foden from a wide forward to a central midfielder, potentially emulating Kevin De Bruyne next season, so Manchester City will have a void to fill.

Guardiola has Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva, Julian Alvarez and Foden who can operate out wide, but Silva has been linked with a move to Barcelona, Alvarez is more of a striker and Foden’s positional change will leave Pep with only two options.

City will need a prolific wide forward that can score and create chances an equal amount while being able to beat his opponent in a one-on-one and being efficient with balls into the box. As a result, Guardiola should consider a move for Randal Kolo Muani as he ticks nearly every box.

The 24-year-old joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer from FC Nantes last summer and has gone on to make 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals with 14 assists. Kolo Muani has created 22 chances, made 30 successful dribbles and whipped in 12 crosses from 18 Bundesliga games this season.

He shone for France at the World Cup, scoring in the semi-final and grabbing an assist in the final, so it’s clear he can deliver on the grand stage. The 24-year-old has trickery on the ball, pace to beat his opponent and a fantastic eye for goal.

l’Equipe (h/t Metro) say Kolo Muani has an asking price of €100m (£88.6m) amid interest from Manchester United and Liverpool, so City would have some obstacles to procuring his signature. Guardiola shouldn’t discount him, however.
