Manchester City confirmed on Friday that Arijanet Muric joined Burnley on a permanent deal, ending a seven-year stay at the Etihad Stadium. The 23-year-old made only four appearances for the Sky Blues and was loaned out for most of his stint in England, but City have managed to minimise his net spend.
Signed on a free transfer from Grasshopper Club Zurich in 2015, Muric was earning £3k-per-week/£156k-a-year until his new deal in 2019 that saw his wages rise to £20k-per-week/£1.04m-a-year – the Kosovan international has taken home approximately £3.6m.
Muric was sold to Burnley for £2.5m, so City have suffered a £1.1m loss after seven years. The 23-year-old never realised his potential in Manchester and found himself on the periphery after underwhelming on loan. Temporary stints away were a chance for Muric to prove himself, but he didn’t take the opportunities.
Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News says City have attached a buyback clause to the goalkeeper’s contract, will get first option if he’s placed on the transfer list and will get a percentage of his sale. Muric hasn’t been in favour for many years, but City cover themselves when selling a young player so they can bring them back in the future or make extra money.
