Man City told not to sell ‘quality player’ who played ‘massive part’ in PL title triumph

Despite being a key player under Pep Guardiola and fantastic servant for Manchester City, Bernardo Silva has an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium. The 27-year-old wanted out of City last summer but was convinced to stay by his manager.

It appears he wants out again this summer, however, and may not be so receptive to Guardiola’s charm amid interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Portuguese international refused to rule out a move from City in a recent interview via O Jogo, but Paddy Kenny says City should do everything in their power to keep him.

He told Football Insider: “Everyone knows Man City don’t need to sell. Silva has also just played a massive part in Man City winning the Premier League. Barcelona keep being linked with everyone but they can’t afford to sign anyone.

“Real Madrid, that’s a fresh start for him. They are on a high having just won the Champions League and La Liga. He is still a quality player and he could still play a big role for Man City further down the line so I think they will want to keep him.”

Silva made 50 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 13 goals with seven assists. The 27-year-old was second in the City squad for successful dribbles (53) and second for chances created (59), so he’s such a valuable playmaker.

Silva was third for tackles (57) and joint-fourth for interceptions (20) too, so his industry levels continue to trump the majority of the team. Guardiola needs him next season, but there is a likelihood that he’ll be moved on. The City manager says he won’t stand in a player’s way if they want to leave, so time will tell how this saga plays out.
