Man City won’t sign 22 y/o with 11 goals and six assists in Serie A despite report [Opinion]

AC Milan are top of Serie A and no player has more goals in the squad that Rafael Leao. The 22-year-old has spent three years at the San Siro, is enjoying his most prolific season to date and has attracted interest from Manchester City, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain as a result, says Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.

It remains to be seen why Pep Guardioa wants to bring Leao to the Etihad Stadium, however, as he has Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva who can operate out wide. If there’s one player City don’t require, it’s an inverted winger. They have a more fervent need to sign a striker.

That’s not to say Leao wouldn’t be useful. The Portuguese international joined Milan on a five-year deal from LOSC Lille and has gone on to make 105 appearances in all competitions, scoring 24 goals with 15 assists. Leao has 11 goals and six assists across the board this season, which is his best return for Milan, but he wouldn’t improve City’s attack.

The Sky Blues have three players with more league goals than Leao (8) this season – Sterling (10), Mahrez (10), Kevin De Bruyne (9) – so why would Guardiola want to sign him?
