Manager treatment could see Man City man spend 2022/23 on the periphery [Opinion]

Scott Carson was an unused substitute in Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Club America on July 21 and 1-0 win over Bayern Munich on July 23, but new-boy Stefan Ortega started the first game while Ederson started the second, so it’s clear Pep Guardiola doesn’t consider the 36-year-old in his plans anymore.

Carson was a second-choice goalkeeper last season, making the matchday squad ahead of Zach Steffen, but he’s now been replaced by Ortega while Steffen has been loaned out. And although the former England international made just one senior appearance in 2021/22, he won’t be pleased to sit on the sidelines.

Carson understood he’d have a backup role upon joining City, but his deal at the Etihad Stadium being up in 2023 could mean this is his final season in Manchester. The 36-year-old is in the eve of his career but is still good enough to continue playing, so he might not settle for a subsidiary role.

Carson initially joined City on a two-year loan from Derby County before turning the move permanent in 2021. He’s gone on to make two appearances in all competitions, spending most of his time on the bench. Ortega’s arrival will push him out of the team, however, so his future is uncertain if he still wants to contribute.

This article is nonsense being pure fiction. Carson knows his position which has not changed with Ortega joining. Ortega is a replacement for Steffen not for Carson. Steffen is at Boro.

Why can’t you write a proper well informed piece about City, their players, coaches, finances and administration? Come on Crippy I’m sure you have it in you to do so.
