Man City eye £40.5m-rated defender who’s been dribbled past less than Aymeric Laporte

According to Calciomercato, Manchester City are interested in Alessandro Bastoni and may have to battle a number of clubs for his signature. Despite signing Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias over the summer, Pep Guardiola is still looking to strengthen his backline.

Bastoni is a regular for Inter Milan and looks to have a bright future, but the Nerazzurri are looking to hand him a lucrative contract extension to keep him at the San Siro. CEO Giuseppe Marotta is unlikely to let an established first-team player leave the club, however, at least for cheap, so we’ll see where this story goes.

The £40.5m-rated man joined Inter from Atalanta for £28m in 2017 and has gone on to make 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals with two assists. The 21-year-old has started three Serie A games this season, winning 3/6 aerial duels, completing 92.2% of his 270 passes and averaging a tackle (4) or interception (4) every 34 minutes.

He has been dribbled past once this season either, which is a better record than Aymeric Laporte (1), so it’s easy to see why we’re being linked. Whether we’ll actually sign Bastoni is another story, however, as Inter want to double his €1.5m-a-year/€28.8k-per-week wages to more than €3m-a-year/€57.6k-per-week.
