Pep Guardiola recently admitted he will rotate his squad less now Manchester City are approaching the final straight of the season, so players like Benjamin Mendy could spend the rest of the campaign on the periphery.

The 26-year-old finds himself behind Oleksandr Zinchenko in the pecking order and has spent most of the campaign on the bench, featuring only once in the Premier League in 2021.

Guardiola isn’t shy with chopping and changing his lineup on a weekly basis, but the City boss says he might stick with a more settled side for the last two months of the season.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “The time of the season with not many games, the players who help me a lot I will rotate less and the players who think about the club and the team. The rest will be on the bench.”

Mendy has made only 13 appearances from a possible 43 in 2020/21, amassing 994 minutes from a possible 3870 across the board. The French international has started only six league games for City this season (Transfermarkt) and might be replaced when the transfer window opens.

Mendy has featured only 66 times in four years at City, so he’s not come close to earning back his £52m fee.
