Contract tabled, player open to staying, La Liga interest – Man City’s dilemma with 32 y/o [Opinion]

There is a lot of uncertainty over Sergio Aguero’s future at Manchester City as his contract is up in the coming months and he’s not close to putting pen to paper on an extension.

The 32-year-old’s had a deal on the table all season and is open to staying at the Etihad Stadium, but he’s spent most of the campaign on the treatment table and has interest from Barcelona so things are up in the air.

Aguero joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has gone on to make 382 appearances, scoring 256 goals and supplying 73 assists in his 10 years at the Etihad (Transfermarkt).

The Argentine international has won four Premier League titles, five League Cups and one FA Cup, but he could win a fifth title this season without playing much of a part in their success.

City are 14 points clear of second-placed Manchester United in the table after 29 games, but Aguero has made only seven league appearances and hasn’t scored in the top-flight.

Since returning from injury, Aguero has featured in only two of City’s last seven league games, so his influence appears to be diminishing. Barcelona have offered him an escape route, but it doesn’t appear his future will be resolved until the season is over.

City were previously happy to keep Aguero for another year and the 32-year-old was happy to stay, but the Daily Mail’s exclusive suggests he’s disillusioned due to a lack of playing time, so might this be it?
