Report: Man City bid ‘refused’ for £150m man, Fabrizio Romano explains why deal is ‘complicated’

|

Manchester City are keen on signing Harry Kane to replace Sergio Aguero this summer as he’s a prolific striker and homegrown talent, but Fabrizio Romano of the Guardian and Sky Sports says a deal is ‘complicated’ because of the 2020 European Championships and their pursuit of Jack Grealish. A bid of £100m was already ‘refused’ by Spurs.

City want to sign both Kane and Grealish in the same transfer window but may have to wait until the tournament ends before lodging another bid. The problem they’ll face by waiting is that is pre-season will already be underway for most clubs, so it may be more difficult to sign Kane and Grealish.

Kane wants to leave Tottenham ahead of the 2021/22 season as he’s desperate to win trophies, but the Lilywhites have slapped a £150m asking price on his head. Grealish has an asking price of £100m, so City’s resources will be stretched trying to bring in both players this summer.

Tottenham are keen to keep Kane in North London but concede they’ll be hard-pressed to say no if a club matches his asking price, but it remains to be seen if a suitor will. City tried to offer players as a makeweight deal but they may have to put in a lot more money before having their bid considered. Time will tell.
