Manchester City confirmed on Friday afternoon that they’d ‘reached an agreement’ with Fluminense for Kayky who will make the switch at the end of the 2011/12 Brazilian campaign.

Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports and the Guardian says the 17-year-old will cost City €10m (£8.7m) with add ons, signing a five-year deal that will begin in the summer of 2022.

Kayky has made nine appearances in all competitions for Fluminense, scoring two goals with one assist. He’s represented Brazil at U16 level and has been called up to the U17s without making an appearance.

The teenager looks to have a bright future, so City have gambled on his potential without breaking the bank. Gabriel Jesus is a Brazilian striker who joined the club under the age of 20 and has gone on to become a regular under Pep Guardiola, so there is a pathway for Kayky to follow in his footsteps.

It’s still early days, however, and the player won’t be available for City until the summer of 2022, so fans will have to wait more than a year to see Kayky in England. The 17-year-old should get more playing time at Fluminense than he would in Manchester, so another season in Brazil will do Kayky some good.
