Report: Man City considering 220-goal man earning £753k p/w if Harry Kane pursuit fails

Manchester City would like to sign Harry Kane to replace Sergio Aguero this summer but are considering alternatives should their pursuit of the 27-year-old fall through.

Mundo Deportivo say the Sky Blues have their eye on Antoine Griezmann and could make a move for the out-of-favour Barcelona forward if Kane is unattainable.

Kane would be the ideal signing for Pep Guardiola as he’s been prolific in England (237 goals in 401 games) and would be a homegrown player, but he still has three years remaining on his deal at Tottenham.

Spurs have no intention of selling Kane and would request an astronomical amount of money from City to pry him away from them, so Griezmann might be an option.

Sport say the 30-year-old is free to leave Barcelona as he’s struggled to nail down a starting place due to inconsistency – he scored only nine goals in 35 La Liga games in 2019/20 and scored 13 goals in 36 La Liga games in 2020/21.

Barcelona have debts of more than €1bn and need to lower their wage bill. Griezmann, who boasts 220 career goals, is reportedly earning €881k-per-week (£753k-per-week) at the Camp Nou, so he’s deemed as expendable. He’d have to accept a significant wage cut to join City though.
