Manchester City are ‘convinced’ Kevin De Bruyne ‘will sign a new contract’ and is ‘staying’ at the Etihad Stadium for the long-term, says Sky Sports and Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The 29-year-old’s existing deal is up in 2023, but it now looks likely that he’ll spend the rest of his career in Manchester.

De Bruyne joined City from Vfl Wolfsburg in 2015 and has gone on to make 253 appearances in all competitions, scoring 64 goals and supplying 105 assists (Transfermarkt). The Belgian international has been a regular under Pep Guardiola when fit and is one of City’s most influential players.

He’s been a terrific servant for the Sky Blues and will be a difficult player to replace, so City can’t afford to let him go. De Bruyne appears keen to see out his time at the Etihad too, so both parties will be keen to get a contract extension over the line.

De Bruyne has scored seven goals and made 16 assists in 31 games across the board, so he’s had a hand in one goal every 101 minutes on average. He’s third in the Premier League for chances created (70), so he’s one of the best playmakers around.

Tying the 29-year-old down for the long-term is a necessity for City’s future success.
