Man City eye ‘unbelievable’ 28 y/o with as many goals as Sterling and Gundogan

Manchester City might need a striker for next season if Sergio Aguero leaves the club at the end of his contract this summer, as Pep Guardiola doesn’t appear to trust Gabriel Jesus to lead the line. Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku has been linked with the Sky Blues, but he’s not the only surprise name.

David Ornstein of The Athletic believes that City have Danny Ings on their wishlist and are monitoring his situation at Southampton. The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season and isn’t close to putting pen to paper on an extension.

Ings has scored 40 goals and made nine assists from 86 games since joining Southampton from Liverpool in 2019. The England international has seven goals from 17 Premier League outings this season, which is the same as City’s top scorers Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan, so he might be a good asset.

There’s no guarantee that City will make a move for Ings, but Ornstein says he does possess a lot of qualities that they might be interested in – prolific in the league, no longer injury-prone and a homegrown player. Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has called Ings “unbelievable” and won’t want to let him go, so time will tell if a deal with City materialises.
