Man City’s £30m signing will leave at the end of the season

According to The Sun, Fernandinho will leave Manchester City at the end of the season. The 35-year-old is not considering retirenement, however, so he’s weighing up offers ahead of a move next summer. Fernandinho is out of contract at the Etihad in 2021 and isn’t expecting a new deal as he’ll turn 36 in May.

The Brazilian international joined for £30m from Shaktar Donetsk in 2013 and has gone on to make 322 appearances in all competitions, scoring 23 goals with 26 assists. Fernandinho had been a regular in his seven years at the club but playing time this season has been sparse.

He’s made eight appearances across the board in 2020/21 but has only amassed 308 minutes of playing time. The Sun believe that Fernandinho felt his importance to Pep Guardiola was starting to wane, potentially due to the signing of Rodri over the summer, so he wants to see out his career elsewhere.

The 35-year-old can talk to clubs in January and a return to Brazil or move to the American MLS may be on the cards. Time will tell. Fernandinho has been a fantastic servant for City and will be given a worth send-off from staff and supporters when he does depart.
