Report: Man City player ‘is a goal of Barcelona’ after contributing 6 goals in 8 PL games

Gabriel Jesus had an uncertain future at Manchester City after firing blanks in the Premier League between mid-November and late-January while being left out of numerous starting elevens when Pep Guardiola put out a strikerless lineup (Transfermarkt), but he’s back to form and is a regular in the side again.

The 23-year-old’s had a hand in six goals from his last eight league appearances and his upturn in form has coincided with interest from Spain, say Calciomercato. Jesus ‘is a goal of Barcelona’, but the report doesn’t go into detail if an offer is being lined up.

Jesus cost City £27m in 2017 and has gone on to contribute 112 goals in 180 games for City while bagging 18 goals in 39 games for the Brazilian national team, so his value will be sky high. CIES Football Observatory estimate Jesus is worth around €70m-€90m (£60.3m-£77.5m), so Barcelona might be priced out of making a move.

The Catalan giants are experiencing financial difficulty amid the Covid-19 pandemic and might have to shop in the bargain bin this summer, so it’s hard to see them putting up enough money for Jesus to get City’s attention. The Sky Blues haven’t shown a desire to cash in either, so Jesus’ immediate future is at the Etihad.
