Given a hefty £32m price tag many might have expected Eliaquim Mangala to walk straight into the City side.

That hasn’t been the case, and isn’t going to be the case either.

Following the time it took to finally complete his signing, and the fact that he was involved in the world cup with France over the summer the defender was given an ‘extended rest’ following his arrivals and is still awaiting his City debut.

This chance is more likely to come after the international break with his quality something that Manuel Pellegrini knows, or he wouldn’t have signed him, will be of huge benefit to us.

Quoted on sky sports the City boss said: ‘He can bring a lot. He is a very strong defender, who is very fast.

‘He is only 23 so he can still improve a lot, which is what we were looking for.

‘We are helping him to settle here in Manchester and after the international break he will be able to play.’

Vincent Kompany and Martin Demichelis have formed a good partnership this season, one that you would think will be hard to break.

Mangala could come into contention to face Arsenal when league action return after the internationals. Two into three doesn’t go but squads are more and more important these days and the 23-year-old has as important a role to play as the others.

He added: ‘We need the three of them. Like I have said about the strikers, it`s the same with the defenders.

‘We have so many games to play. At the moment Demichelis and Kompany are playing well but that doesn`t mean that Mangala can`t play as well.

‘He will have his time to play, and then it will depend on his performances for the team.’

Will Mangala come in for his debut after the break? He may well play a part but you’d think that Kompany and Demichelis will continue their partnership for now….
