On Tuesday evening Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil put himself into Premier League history books when it came to chances created in a single match.
Arsenal hosted Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium for the game on Tuesday evening and took a two nil victory with a brace of goals for Alexis Sanchez.
Whilst Sanchez took his own praise as they kept their Champions League hopes alive, it was Ozil who went down in history as he created 12 individual chances on the evening to move him into top spot in the all time chances created in a single match chart.
He replaced Manchester City’s David Silva who held top spot purely on a date set point of view as he created 11 chances back against West Bromwich Albion on March 21, 2015.
Silva wasn’t the only one sitting on 11 chances in a single game though as the first to reach that tally was Birmingham City’s Jermaine Pennant back on May 5, 2005 in their game against Norwich City. Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia made 11 in their game against Burnley on January 16, 2010, Chelsea’s Florent Malouda hit the same in their game against Birmingham City on November 20, 2010 and in more recent times, Samir Nasri made 11 for Manchester City against Tottenham Hotspur on August 28, 2011.
Ozil features for a second time in the table with 10 chances created and joined on 10 in a single game are Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs in their game against Manchester City back on September 20, 2009 and Malouda appears again in Chelsea game against Birmingham City on December 26, 2009 with 10.
