Noel Gallagher answers whether De Bruyne has surpassed David Silva at Man City

|

Kevin De Bruyne made two assists in Manchester City’s 6-3 win over Manchester United on Sunday, taking his tally in the Premier League to 94. He overtook David Silva’s assist tally (93) in fewer games and could finish the season third in the all-time charts with nine more assists, but Noel Gallagher is unsure whether the 31-year-old has surpassed Silva as a City player.

He was full of praise for De Bruyne after he set up two goals for Erling Haaland over the weekend but can’t decide whether the Belgian international has been a better servant.

Gallagher told talkSPORT Drive: “You can’t split them, it’s like saying who’s better out of John Lennon or Paul McCartney, they’re equally as talented. De Bruyne is getting a statue, that is for sure.”

De Bruyne has made 318 appearances in all competitions since joining in 2015, scoring 87 goals with 131 assists, so he’s averaged a goal contribution every 1.45 games. The 31-year-old has won four Premier League titles, one Fa Cup and five League Cups.

Silva made 436 appearances across the board (2010 – 2020), scoring 77 goals with 140 assists, so he’s averaged a goal contribution every 2 games. The 36-year-old won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups.

Stats show the two players are very even, but Silva joined City before the side became a title-challenging outfit. He played his part in their transformation into a top club while De Bruyne has kept them winning ever since, so it’s no wonder Gallagher can’t decide between the two.
