Player could leave Man City after market value drops by 84% [Opinion]

Patrick Roberts could be on his way out of Manchester City this summer as he’s surplus to requirements under Pep Guardiola and finds himself behind six players in the pecking order.

The 24-year-old has failed to nail down a starting place in his six years at Man City while entering the final year of his contract this summer, so the writing is on the wall.

Roberts could leave on a free transfer next year, so City must cash in early if they want to make back some of the £11m spent in 2015. Unfortunately, the former England youth international’s market value has dropped by 84% to £1.8m, so he won’t fetch a lot.

Roberts joined the Premier League champions from Fulham and has gone on to make three appearances in all competitions. The 24-year-old’s failure to break into the first-team led to him being loaned out to Celtic, Girona, Norwich City, Middlesbrough and Derby County.

Roberts’ loan history suggests he’s Championship level now, so he doesn’t stand a chance of dethroning Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Ferran Torres and Bernardo Silva.

Where the 24-year-old will end up remains to be seen, but City don’t appear to have a lot of suitors.
