Manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that we will be taking former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard on loan until the turn of the year.

Speculation has been rife the last week or so about a potential loan deal for the 36 year old, and it’s now been confirmed that the midfielder will turn out for us until he begins his new career at New York City in the MLS.

Speaking to the press following our two all draw with Olympiakos, the gaffer choose not to discuss the now infamous Micah Richards left leg, but instead spoke about Lampard.

‘As you know Frank has signed a contract with New York City and will start working here (the States) in January as the season starts in March. From next Wednesday he will start working with our team and will play for us until then. At the moment he will work with the squad and be a member of the squad. He will fight for position. He knows we have a very good team, we have a lot of players in his position. He is one more player. We have a lot of games particularly with the Champions League – so he’s very important for our team.’

Having apparently said on his departure from Chelsea that he wouldn’t play for another Premier League team, should he be selected to face Chelsea it could be of some interest.
