Pellegrini Scoops August Award

With Man City having a record of played four won four it’s hardly a surprise Manuel Pellegrini’s been named the August Manager of the Month in the Premier League is it!

This, with him winning such an award for a fourth time as the City boss, is what he managed with the points return itself enough to have quite rightly given this to him ahead of the rest of the teams in the topflight.

However it’s the manor in which we’ve gone about winning with some impressive team performances and results.

Quoted by mcfc.co.uk, after winning this award, he said.

‘It’s very good. It means the team is doing things the way I want; I think we finished very well last season so it was important to start the way we did.

‘The highlight was the way we played. It’s important to continue the style of football; the team won the four games in the way I like to play.

‘The key maybe was linking with the other season. Of course, it’s not good for this team not to win anything last season so I made sure the players understood that and had a reaction.

‘When you don’t win titles, it presents an important challenge. It happens to a lot of teams. When you win, you think you must continue in the same way, but mentally it’s not the same. Now we are mentally strong.’

Winning this is great for Pellegrini himself, who came under much criticism last season from some quarters, but also as he said for the club as a whole as it means we’ve started the season well.

That being said it’ll count for little, to nothing, if we don’t carry this on!

Ideally he’ll win this several more times this season and then be crowned Manager of the Season for guiding the Citizens to another Premier League title win! We remain favourites for this but the boss was also quick to play down this talk.

One of those he beat to win this is Alan Pardew, who will look to exploit the ‘jinx’, as it can sometimes be, of winning this award when City take on Crystal Palace tomorrow….

It wasn’t a City double though with Silva and Kolarov beaten to this by Swansea’s Andre Ayew.
