Pep Guardiola isn’t happy with one aspect of Silva and Gundogan’s output [Opinion]

Erling Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm since joining Manchester City last summer, scoring 25 goals from 19 league games this season, but Jack Gaughan and Tom Collomosse of Mail Online say Pep Guardiola isn’t happy with the contributions of his supporting cast.

In addition to Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, City are reportedly interested in Leicester City’s James Maddison as they seek a midfielder who can score goals. Kevin De Bruyne has three goals and 11 assists in the league this season, but Bernardo Silva (2 goals and 5 assists) and Ilkay Gundogan (2 goals and 2 assists) aren’t pulling their weight.

Silva hasn’t scored in the league since August and hasn’t managed an assist since October. He’s gone eight games without a goal contribution. Gundogan also hasn’t scored in the league since August and hasn’t made an assist since November.

Bellingham has 10 goals and four assists this season while Maddison has seven goals and four assists. Guardiola wants his own midfielders contributing as many goals as the pair and is willing to spend a lot of City’s money, so it’s a message to Silva and Gundogan that they need to improve.
