Pep Guardiola would have to sell Man City player to bring in 23 y/o target [Opinion]

Pep Guardiola isn’t short of wide forwards with Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva at his disposal, but Calciomercato say Manchester City are showing an interest in another – Rafael Leao of AC Milan.

The 23-year-old joined Milan from LOSC Lille in 2019 and has gone on to make 122 appearances in all competitions, scoring 30 goals with 25 assists, so he’s had a hand in a goal every 2.2 games on average. Leao is a talented forward, but City could only sign him if they sold an existing player

The Portuguese international likes to cut inside from the left-wing, so he’s most similar to Grealish out of the City forwards. Leao is putting in fantastic numbers (7 games, 3 goals, 4 assists) and is four years Grealish’s junior, so it’s easy to see why the Sky Blues would be interested.

He’s in better form than the England international and clearly has a bright future, but Guardiola won’t sign competition for Grealish after City spent £100m bringing him to Manchester last year.

Leao looks a real talent and would improve most sides in Europe, but City would have to axe their record signing to fit him in the team – something that won’t happen.
