The FA announced today that Phil Dowd will referee the Community Shield between Manchester City and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium on 7 August.

The 48-year-old said…

‘The Community Shield will be my third game at Wembley Stadium and I’m really excited about it. It’s such a special place and you get a real buzz when stepping out on that pitch.’

Phil began his career in his native Staffordshire before joining the Football League list in 1997. In 2001 he was appointed to the Select Group Referees list meaning he was qualified to officiate Premier League and other top level matches.
