‘Pivotal’ – Journalists say ‘astonishing’ Man City man was ‘effective’ v Brighton

|

Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League table with a 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday and Bernardo Silva was one of many players who shone.

The 27-year-old had a lukewarm first half in a false nine role but impressed when given creative freedom after the break. Silva got on the scoresheet too, finishing with a brilliantly-placed finish from the edge of the box to wrap the game up.

Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News gave a player rating of 8/10 and called his performance ‘astonishing’ and ‘effective’. Tom Gott of 90min gave Silva a player rating of 7/10 and noted how little he affects the game when playing as a false nine.

Gott said the Portuguese international was much better in the second half when Pep Guardiola switched up his role. Louis Writtle of City Xtra gave Silva a player rating of 8/10 and said he’s ‘pivotal’ in this side. Writtle said the 27-year-old ‘worked tirelessly’ and delivered a ‘strong performance’ overall.

Silva has made 44 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 12 goals with five assists. The Portuguese forward has played in all but one Premier League game, amassing 2602 minutes from a possible 2880.
